Pain – Is There a Purpose?

reaching for help

I’ve heard some ladies say something like “Labor pain is hard, but it’s worth it because there is a purpose to that pain. It’s the only pain with a purpose.”

But I think that every pain can have a purpose. After all, the Bible says,

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.  For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” Romans 8:28-29

God sometimes allows pain in our lives to teach us to depend on Him. I’ve noticed that when I am sick or have a health problem that is unresolved or just diagnosed, I understand a little more what it means for God to be my only hope in this world. So many times I depend on myself or someone else, but really, my only true Rock is Jesus Christ.

We can learn much from pain – physical or otherwise – and it can help us to be conformed to the image of Christ.

Isn’t the Lord good to make even the hard things turn out for our eternal good? He’s amazing!

And the awesome thing is that if our lives were beds of roses with no thorns, we’d have very little reward. But when we come out of a trial and look back, even if it waits till Heaven to do so, we can see all the good He has done in those hard and even horrible situations.

I will close with one of my favorite songs.

Am I a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?

Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.

When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

week of April 26 008 (Large)

Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross and raising from the dead, not only for me, but for the whole world and for the glory of the Father!

Thank you for prompting Gratitude Challenges.

Thank you for baby showers and the blessing of little ones.

Thank you for my grandparents!

Thank you for making such a pretty world!

Happy Gratitude!

Have you ever stopped to think about how great God is and how He still loves us, even when we are such complaining sinners? God is faithful, almighty, loving, holy, Creator, redeemer, Bridegroom, omnipotent… Wow, I could just keep going! Let’s stop and think about the amazing greatness of God today.

“…Giving thanks always for all things unto God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:20

I am thankful for…

Songs to sing to Jesus – there are so many!

Great conversations with extended family.

Inspiring and convicting sermons.

I don’t have to worry about if we’ll have the next meal, I just ask what we’ll have.

My nice old Bible with really neat cross references.

Gratitude… Anti Anxiety!

I found this when I looked for pictures and I just love it because it is SO true! When we focus on Who God is and all He has done for us and all His people through Jesus, we just can’t help being thankful! I once heard of a lady who said she has never been depressed because whenever she is feeling down or “blue” she starts quoting Psalm 103 to herself. Such a wonderful habit!

But now for the gratitude part of this post.

  • I am thankful for two mission trips I was able to be a part of. My life is truly changed because of the interaction and fellowship I was able to have in a different culture and to be mutually blessed with Christ as our focus.
  • I thank God for color; how dull would our world be without it!
  • I am grateful for the book Unveiled At Last that I just finished, which explains what God’s plan is from Genesis to Revelation. I am still digesting all the new (sort of?) information that is in it. He has such a way of pointing out obvious truths that you should know but often miss. I was inspired to live fully for God – He is SO worthy!
  • I am grateful for my brother’s birthday and all the fun we are able to have together. His excitement is so much fun!
  • I am thankful for my Bibles – so many don’t have even one, and I have several. I want so much for others to have them in their language and even though it is illegal in their country.

I would love to hear what you are thankful for!

Grateful… Day 2

I am grateful to God for all members of my family: my Mom, Dad, sisters, brother and brother-in law.

I am thankful for Calvary, where Jesus Christ took my sin upon Himself so I could have a restored relationship with my Creator.

I am grateful for homemade Macaroni and Cheese!

I am thankful for my watch.

I am praise God for the gift of a healthy body, especially that I can walk, and for the sense of sight. It’s amazing how you become thankful when something is temporarily taken! I injured my foot and had a tough time remembering I couldn’t walk on it. 🙂

How about you? What are you thankful for?

Happy November!

Happy Thanksgiving Month!

We have so much to be thankful for, and since I am taking a Gratitude Challenge with Revive Our Hearts, I thought I would post something at least weekly about what I am thankful for. I hope I can do it almost daily, but you never know. 🙂 Life is busy!

I would love if you could join me in this “challenge” by leaving a comment of some things YOU are thankful for!

I just love the holiday of Thanksgiving, because it is a  chance to get together with family and talk about all there is to thank the Lord for. It’s a great witnessing opportunity to the unsaved, and great fellowship for the believers. And most importantly, it is a praise to God!

So here are some the things I am grateful for.

  • Pictures off the internet that make blogs pretty!
  • My little brother who makes me laugh
  • A God Who loves us enough to create humor
  • The opportunity to share God’s love and plan of salvation to others
  • Uplifting and inspiring Christian books

There’s a start! I have so many more, but I’ll save that for another day. Be back for more tomorrow!

Have a blessed and gratitude-charged day!

It has been awhile since I posted anything! I have been very busy with summer activity, farms being the busiest in warm weather.

With summer comes the fair, and I was thrilled to enter two paintings at our local fair. I was blessed to win two blue ribbons!

Week of July 23 009 (Large)

One of them was done for a cousin, which is why it is covered with everything else. I want to keep it mostly a surprise!

I am also desiring to sell a couple paintings, so if you are interested or know someone who might be, please share this information with them.

I am excited to offer you an award winning painting. This one got a blue ribbon at the LaCrosse Interstate Fair. A different painting of mine got the Best of Show.

The cost is $150, plus shipping if necessary.

16″ x 20″ and 3/4″ thick
Hand painted
Vibrant colors!
Great for large walls that need some action.
There is a special spot on the back for me to put a personalized note to the recipient if desired. I will “write” (paint) it on request.

I am pleased to offer this painting for $200 (plus shipping).

16″x20″ and 3/4″ thick
Hand painted
Brilliant colors
Great for large walls that are a bit colorless. We’ve had it hanging above the stairs on a white wall, and everyone loves it.

Thank you for sharing, and have a great summer!
