Although great ideas don’t come to me very often, I had one just the other day, and now I can share it with you!
I hope you can use it in your own life, not just the way I did, but also using your own creativity for other things.
The way it happened was this: I was doing an assignment in Sarah Mally’s book Before You Meet Prince Charming, where I was supposed to look up verses about what kind of heart God wants us to have as Christians. I did that, but then I began wondering what kind of heart God doesn’t like, so I looked up verses to contrast with the good, and came up with a whole list, as follows. (Note: I tried to do this in two columns so you could see the neat contrasts, but it didn’t work.)
Understanding (1 Kings 3:9,12)
Blameless (2 Chronicles 16:9)
Tender (2 Chronicles 34:27)
Upright (Psalm 7:10)
Broken or Contrite (Psalm 34:18)
Clean (Psalm 51:10)
Merry (Proverbs 17:22)
Pure (Matthew 5:8)
Gentle and Lowly (Matthew 11:29)
Forgiving (Ephesians 4:32)
Peace-filled (Colossians 3:15)
Trustful (Proverbs 3:5)
Whole-Hearted (Psalm 119:10)
Blameless (2 Chronicles 16:9)
Blameless and Upright (Psalm 37:37)Complaining (Psalm 95:10)
Sinful (Psalm 41:4)
Haughty (2 Samuel 22:28)
Wicked (Psalm 37:38)
Proud (Psalm 101:5)
Perverse (Psalm 10:31)
Deceitful (Proverbs 12:20)
Worthless (Proverbs 10:20)
Devious (Proverbs 16:9)
Mischievous (Psalm 140:2)
Backsliding (Proverbs 14:14)
Fretting against God (Proverbs 19:3)
Double-hearted (Psalm 12:2)
But the list is kind of boring, and I want to learn them and weed out the bad heart attitudes as I put the godly heart verses into practice. So here comes the idea: cutting out paper hearts with the verses on them, and then hang them in a noticeable place.
First I typed each kind of heart up on the computer and printed them…
got out construction paper, glue stick, and scissors of many kinds to make valentine-type hearts to put the verses on….
and there they are! Well, some of them. I have all the other ones that are on the list, too.
And now they’re hanging on the wall above the stairs, so that when I come down, I can see them and memorize them!
I’m hanging them two at a time every so often so we have a chance to memorize the verses and hopefully put them into practice in our daily lives.
Well, I guess that’s all! I hope you enjoyed the idea I had. I had a lot of fun with it! I love cutting things out with fancy scissors and making things that are so practical pretty as well.
If you want, you could comment below about similar ideas you’ve had. I would really enjoy that a lot. And maybe I can do them too!
Until then, may God bless you and keep you as you serve Him.
Naomi
That is an awesome idea! I wondered what the hearts were! 🙂
